MISSO - the MIS Student Organization - was founded in 1999 and has been an active part of UNO ever since. In the past few years, MISSO has hosted guest speakers from a variety of information systems-related companies and organizations. MISSO has also sponsored field trips, workshops, and a variety of social events.

MISSO’s goals are:

  • To provide a sense of community and camaraderie among students enrolled in and/or interested in the MIS program.
  • To provide MIS students with career development advice and contacts through professional and social events.
  • To provide students with presentations by and valuable contacts with professionals in business and industry.

MISSO has a general meeting once a month, usually featuring a guest speaker. In addition, other activities are planned. MISSO membership is open to all UNO and UNL students. Students of all majors who are interested in the field of information systems are invited to join us at our meetings.

Upcoming MISSO meeting:

MISSO - the MIS Student Organization - will have its next meeting on Friday, November 20, in PKI 160. Pizza arrives at 4:30 pm and our guest speakers will commence at 5:00 pm.

This month MISSO will introduce you to two options that will take you beyond the classroom and into the wide world we live in. Our first speaker is Daniel Boyd, a recruiting specialist with All Our Kids, Inc. All Our Kids is a mentoring program for at-risk youth in our community. Daniel will talk to us about how PKI students can make an enormous difference in the lives of young people by mentoring them in our area of expertise: information technology! You can find out more about this program at allourkids.org.

Next ISQA graduate Student Seth Wingert will tell us about his experiences as he spent a semester in Norway at Agder University. IS&T students can take courses here that count fully towards their degree, while enjoying an exciting and beautiful new environment. Yuo can find out more about this program at www.ist.unomaha.edu/?p=exchange/norway.

So join us on November 20 for another great MISSO meeting with great speakers, good food, and - of course - more fun giveaways!
